About Bern

Leapin’ Lindy is your chance to dance in a UNESCO World Heritage Site! Bern is the capital of Switzerland but nevertheless a very laid back and small city with a beautiful old town surrounded by the river Aare. Everything is located very centrally and you can easily spend a few days visiting museums and historic sites, if dancing isn’t your only mission in life. You can find more information about Bern on the official website of the city.

Bern’s swing scene is a community loosely connected by the local association called Swingmachine. Swing dancers of every age dance to every song with a groove. There are (more or less) active scenes for Lindy Hop, Balboa, Blues, Authentic Jazz, Collegiate Shag and Boogie Woogie. You can find more information about events happening in and around Bern on the Swingmachine Website.

Getting to Bern

You can easily and quickly reach Bern by train. The train station is in the center of Bern and all locations can be easily reached. We recommend to take the train if you come from Switzerland or in an adjacent country. If you book early, you can find cheap tickets from most adjacent countries. Usually, they will be cheaper if you book from your local train company than by booking from the Swiss SBB.

Train timetables and tickets for Switzerland (including local transport around Bern) can be found here: SBB

If you want to fly, we recommend you fly to Zürich (ZRH), Geneva (GVA) or Basel (BSL) and take the train from there (1.5 – 2 hours).
You can also fly directly to Bern. There is small international airport (BRN) with direct flights to most European business centers. However, direct flights to Bern are usually quite expensive.

Getting Around Bern

One of the nice things about Bern is that many of the places you want to go to are located in the city center and are close to the main train station. You can easily reach many places on foot.
